Game Notes

HOUSTON – Following a 94-62 win on Sunday the HCU men's basketball team is back to it on Tuesday evening in Sharp Gym for a non-conference matchup with Maine at Fort Kent at 7:00 p.m. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.

HCU (2-7) is fresh off a win over Southwestern Adventist on Sunday, Dec. 4, in which five different players scored at least 12 points and the Huskies shot 52.6 percent from the floor as a team. As a team, the Huskies are now shooting 47.6 percent from the field on the season, the best mark in the Southland Conference.

Senior Bonke Maring ranks 39th nationally in field goal percentage, connecting on 61.7 percent (58-of-94) from the floor. That puts him on pace to finish in the top-10 in program history for single-season field percentage. Michael LeBlanc holds the top spot on that list with a 64.5 percent mark from the 2001-02 season.

Maine at Fort Kent (2-7) is led by sophomore guard Jordan Guerrero averaging 16.4 points per game while shooting over 40 percent from the field and from three. Daniel Franz, a 6-8 junior, is second on the team with 14.2 ppg and is tops with 6.8 rebounds per game. In their last game, the Bengals fell to Bridgewater State by a 107-83 final.

Tuesday's game will be shown on ESPN+ with Garrett Jones and Van Chancellor teaming up to call the action.

HCU will wrap up its four-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 10, when the Huskies square off against the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros in Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m.
