HOUSTON – On Monday morning, HCU head men's soccer coach Ryan Pratt announced two more transfers to the Huskies' program with midfielder Kidus Assefa making the move from Longwood and goalkeeper Jordan Santa Cruz coming from Memphis. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
Assefa, a 5-10 midfielder who hails from Alexandria, Va., played two season for Longwood. He appeared in 21 matches with one start and logged a single assist. In his two seasons, he played a total of 600 minutes. In high school, he was named district Player of the Year at West Potomac High School.
"We are excited to add Kidus to our program," Pratt said. "He is a smooth, technical player who can play anywhere in the midfield. He brings with him valuable D1 experiences that will only help our group get better!"
Santa Cruz, a native of Goodyear, Ariz., is a 6-1 goalkeeper who has been at Memphis the last two seasons. He did not see the field during his time at Memphis, a period in which he served in a reserve role and the Tigers won 15 games. Prior to Memphis, Santa Cruz spent two years with the RSL-AZ MLS Next U18/19 Academy.
Assefa and Santa Cruz will join the HCU program for the 2023 spring semester.
