Game Notes

AUSTIN, Texas – HCU men's basketball is set to take on the 12th-ranked Texas Longhorns on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. in the team's second game of the young 2022-23 season at the Moody Center. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.

HCU (0-1) dropped its season opener on Tuesday evening at Florida International, 77-66, in Miami, Fla. Junior Brycen Long poured in a career-high 28 points and matched the program record of eight made three-pointers to lead the Huskies. Newcomer Maks Klanjscek added 11 points while senior Sam Hofman pulled down 10 rebounds to lead all players. The Huskies shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from three-point range in the loss.

The Longhorns (1-0) are coming off a season-opening win over UTEP, defeating the Miners by a score of 72-57. Sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter led Texas with 18 points while Sir'Jabari Rice scored 14 off the bench. The Longhorns shot 54.8 percent (23-of-42) from the floor but just 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from behind the arc in the win.

The Huskies and Longhorns met last season in the season opener in what was just the second ever game between the two programs. Current sophomore Deshon Proctor made his collegiate debut in that game with a 10-point, seven-rebound performance. Long came off the bench for the Huskies, finishing with six points and four rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

Husky fans can listen to the Husky Sports Network audio broadcast with Garrett Jones providing play-by-play at HCUHuskies.com. Thursday's game will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.

The Huskies will play their home opener on Monday, Nov. 14, against Champion Christian at 7:00 p.m. to start a stretch of three-straight games in Sharp Gym.
