NATCHITOCHES, La. – No. 4 seed HCU is set for a Southland Conference Tournament semifinal matchup with top-seeded Lamar on Friday with a new start time of 11:00 a.m. due to expected inclement weather in the area. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
The Huskies (7-9-3) earned their place in the semifinals with a thrilling opening round 1-0 victory over No. 5 Southeastern on Wednesday. The game remained tied at the end of regulation with HCU eventually scoring the game-winner in the second overtime period thanks to a goal from freshman Alexa Huerta.
Lamar (13-1-2), the league's regular season champion, enjoyed a first round bye on Wednesday and comes into Friday's game on a four-game winning streak. The Cardinals' only loss this season came at the hands of host Northwestern State. HCU and Lamar met two weeks ago in Houston with LU taking a 3-0 win.
The winner of Friday's match will advance to the final on Sunday, Nov. 6, against the winner of Friday's other match between the host Lady Demons and Texas A&M-Commerce.
