VB: HCU Edges Nicholls in Five Sets

VB: The Huskies hold solo lead in Southland Conference Standings

THIBODAUX, LA – The Huskies edge Nicholls in five sets (26-24, 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-8). The Huskies won both matchups against the Colonels this season in the fifth sets and now sit alone at the top of the Southland Conference standings.

HCU (16-7, 8-2 SLC) was led by sophomore middle blocker Audrey Pearce with 17 kills, four digs, and 5 blocks while sophomore outside hitter Sara Arroyo added 15 kills, four digs, and one block. Freshman outside hitter Cassidy Drapela recorded 12 kills, three blocks, and two digs while senior outside hitter Anna Gadway added 14 kills, four blocks, and nine digs. Redshirt freshman setter Grace McLaughlin recorded a double-double dishing out an HCU career high 62 assists along with 13 digs. Junior libero Kaley Feris led the team defensively with 27 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Tatiana Evans had 17 digs and one kill. Freshman defensive specialist Hazel Allen recorded 15 digs and led the team with two aces.

Nicholls (4-18, 1-9 SLC) was led by Devon Bright with 13 kills and one dig while S'mara Riley added 12 kills, four blocks, and one dig. Both Lilly Bivens and Taylor Heeb dished out 23 assists while Heeb added 10 digs. Trinity Vinzant recorded a double-double leading the Colonels defensively with 16 digs along with 10 kills and five aces.

The Huskies will return to action on Saturday, October 22 in Hammond, LA to take on the Lady Lions of Southeastern at 1 p.m. in the University Center. This is the second of two meeting between HCU and SLU after the Huskies dominated the first match in three straight sets.

Southeastern (16-6, 6-4 SLC) are led by Kailin Newsome with 280 kills, 194 digs, and 15 blocks on the season. Gracie Duplechein has dished out 487 assists on the year while averaging 6.32 assists/set for the Lady Lions. Ansley Tullis leads the team defensively with 312 digs on the year while Hannah Brewer has recorded 72 blocks on the season.
