VB: Huskies Sweep the Houston Marriott Westchase Invitational

Huskies head to Rice to play Owls on Tuesday night

HOUSTON – HBU improved their record to 5-2 on the season after defeating Louisiana Tech and Prairie View A&M in the Houston Marriott Westchase Invitational Saturday in Sharp Gym.

The first match of the day for the Huskies (5-2) was against Louisiana Tech (3-3). After losing the first set (25-21) the Huskies came out fast to win the second set, winning 13 of the first 17 points. It was more dominance for the Huskies throughout the match winning sets three and four 25-8 and 25-12 respectively.

Junior right side hitter Anna Gadway led the Huskies in kills, with 14, while tacking on two aces while on serve. Senior middle blocker Ebonie Ballesteros led the way for the Huskies defensively with four blocks while also tacking on seven kills. Junior setter Ellie Wipf had a game high 32 assists.

The Huskies led the Lady Techsters in kills (46-27), aces (9-5), blocks (8-5), assists (40-24), and digs (78-62).
 
The second match of the day for the Huskies came against Prairie View A&M (0-7).

It was more dominance for the Huskies in the night cap as they took this one in straight sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-15). It was back and forth between the Huskies and the Lady Panthers for the first 11 points of the opening set, before HBU opened the scoring by winning 20 of the next 27 points to claim the first set.
 
Wipf helped lead the way offensively setting up her teammates with 22 assists. Gadway added seven kills and had six aces while on serve. Freshman middle blocker Audrey Pearce and Gadway tied for a team high in blocks with two.

The Huskies led the Lady Panthers in kills (36-16), aces (14-2), blocks (5-2), assists (25-12), and digs (37-30).

The Huskies will head across town to take on the Rice Owls Tuesday at 6 p.m. before heading to Texas Christian University to play in the Fight in the Fort tournament beginning Thursday at 3 p.m.
