NATCHITOCHES, La. – A split Southland Conference weekend is ahead for the HBU women's soccer with a trip to Louisiana on Friday to face Northwestern State before returning to Sorrels Field on Sunday to take on UIW.
HBU (1-7-2, 1-2-1 SLC) aims to get back in the win column after dropping a tough matchup to McNeese last Thursday, 2-1. Sophomore
Evelyn Slaughter, making her first appearance of the season, put the Huskies on the board against the Cowgirls with a header off a corner kick.
The Lady Demons (4-4-2, 4-1-0 SLC) dropped their most recent match, a 2-0 loss at McNeese this past Sunday, breaking a five-game unbeaten streak. NSU boasts the conference's leading scorer in junior forward Olivia Draguicevich who has seven goals and a pair of assists for 16 points with all of her goals coming against conference opponents. In goal, senior Acelya Adogmus has played every minute and has recorded five shutouts with four of those in SLC games.
UIW (1-8-1, 1-3-0 SLC) host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday before visiting the Huskies. The Cardinals have played just one road game this season, tying UT Rio Grande Valley, 1-1, in Edinburg on Sep. 10. Goals have been hard to come by for UIW with just five out of 145 shot attempts with sophomore Sierra Wannamaker leading the way with two. Junior Margaret Kofron has played the majority of minutes in goal with a goals against average of 1.37 and a .706 save percentage.
The Huskies are currently fifth in the SLC standings with four points while NSU is second with 12 points and UIW sits behind HBU in sixth with three.
Next week, HBU will host TAMUCC on Thursday, Oct. 7, and then travel to San Antonio for the return game against UIW on Sunday, Oct. 10.
