NACOGDOCHES, Texas – HBU cruised past ULM, 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-10), but were halted by host Stephen F. Austin, 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-19) Friday in Shelton Gym.
In the sweep of ULM, senior middle blocker
Ebonie Ballesteros led the Huskies with nine kills and six blocks, while freshman outside hitter
Alyssa May hit .421 with eight kills and no errors on 19 attempts and also had six digs and three blocks. Freshman middle blocker
Audrey Pearce added seven kills and four blocks and junior right side
Anna Gadway had five kills and six digs. Junior setter
Ellie Wipf dished out 31 assists and also had seven kills and five digs. Sophomore libero
Kaley Feris came up with 22 digs and had three assists and three aces and freshman defensive specialist
Tatiana Evans had 10 digs.
Cali Assaley had eight kills and six digs for the Warhawks. Kaitlin Davis and Cameron Rogers each had 11 digs.
The Huskies hit .239, while holding the Warhawks to .009. HBU outdug ULM, 61-49, outblocked them 11-0, and outaced them, 4-2.
Against SFA, sophomore outside hitter
Sara Arroyo had 10 kills and six digs. Senior middle blocker
Jada Allen and freshman middle blocker
Audrey Pearce each had nine kills. Ballesteros finished with four kills and a pair of blocks. Wipf recorded 30 assists, four kills and eight digs. Feris posted 19 digs, freshman outside hitter
Alexia Jones had 11 and Evans had 10.
Ariana Pagan had 13 kills and 16 digs, while Leah Powell had eight kills for the Ladyjacks. Alyssa Ortega also had 16 digs.
SFA hit .214 and HBU hit .176. The Huskies outdug the Ladyjacks, 65-61 and each team had six blocks, but SFA had 10 aces to HBU's three.
The Huskies rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second set, trailing at one point 16-6. HBU was then down 24-20, but scored four-straight points to extend the set, before falling, 27-25.
The Huskies wrap up the tournament against Grambling Saturday at 11 a.m.
