HOUSTON – The HBU Huskies defeated the Huston-Tillotson Rams 6-0 in non-conference action Friday night at Sorrels Field.
The Huskies (2-3) came out fast and aggressive against the Rams (1-1) getting three shots off in the first nine minutes of the contest. They started their scoring in the 10
th-minute when junior forward
Bryant Farkarlun was tackled in the box by a Rams defender, leading to a goal by junior midfielder
Luis Poblacion on the ensuing penalty kick, his first of the season.
The scoring quickly continued for the Huskies in the 19
th minute when sophomore midfielder
Bangelee Sesay sent a through ball down the left side to Farkarlun who sent a ball into the box that was finished by senior forward
CJ Smith (4) to extend the Huskies lead, 2-0. The Huskies got on the board six minutes later when sophomore forward
Nathan Karmbor (1) scored on a ball assisted by sophomore defender
Zack Nicolaou and junior midfielder
Dillon Etter to extend the lead, 3-0.
The Huskies dominated on defense the rest of the half, stopping the Rams on any offensive attack they put together and went into the half leading 3-0.
More domination in the second half for the Huskies as Smith (5) got on the board again in the 55
th minute on a ball from Poblacion. In the 69
th minute sophomore forward
Abu Kamara beat his man down the right side and sent a cross into the box that was put into the back of the net by Karmbor (2) to extend the Huskies lead, 5-0. Two minutes later, on a Husky corner kick, Poblacion sent a ball into the box that was headed in by senior defender
Diego Aguilera Cubero (1) to conclude the scoring on the night for the Huskies, 6-0.
Head coach
Ryan Pratt has praise for his team after tonight's win. "The way we played and executed tonight was exactly what we needed to get back on track as we prepare for a very good Oral Roberts team," Pratt said. "Our defense was good tonight. I was proud of the fact we were able to keep a clean sheet."
Several Huskies made their season debuts tonight, including junior defender
Ethan Everts, freshman goalkeeper
Ciro Calderon and sophomore midfielder
Angus Bailey.
For the game the Huskies led the Rams in total shots and shots on goal, 15(10)-4(0) and corner kicks, 7-3. Sophomore goalkeeper
Gustavo Otero and Calderon combined to give the Huskies their second clean sheet on the season.
The Huskies return to action Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field to take on Oral Roberts, kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
