MSOC: Oral Roberts Defeats Huskies, 2-0

Huskies travel to California to take on Santa Clara Friday

HOUSTON – The HBU men's soccer team was defeated by the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field, 2-0.

Both teams had good looks on goal early. In the 13th minute, Oral Roberts' (5-1) midfielder Eugene Quaynor sent a shot on from five yards outside the box that was saved by HBU's sophomore goal keeper Gustavo Otero. One minute later the Huskies (2-4) had a great opportunity to take the lead when the Golden Eagles had a handball in their box to give the Huskies a penalty kick. Junior midfielder Luis Poblacion took the PK for the Huskies but a nice save by Oral Roberts goalkeeper, Miles Motakef, kept the match even, 0-0.

The first goal for the Golden Eagles came on a 19th minute corner kick when Reed Berry crossed a ball into the box that was touched by Josselyn Petel and put into the back of the net by Quaynor.

HBU sophomore forward Abu Karma put a shot on goal for the Huskies from the left side of the box which was saved by Motakef, the Huskies only other shot on goal in the half. Good defense by both teams the rest of the way saw Oral Roberts go into the half leading 1-0.

Other than a 69th minute goal for the Golden Eagles it was a relatively quiet offensive half for both teams. HBU junior forward Bryant Farkarlun was able to get a shot on goal from the top of the box in the 83rd minute, but another nice save from Motakef kept the Huskies off the board.

For the game the Golden Eagles led the Huskies in total shots and shots on goal 13(9)-11(4) and held the advantage in corner kicks 9-8. The Huskies Otero had seven saves on the game, the second highest total of his Huskies career.

The Huskies travel to California this week to face Santa Clara on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CST, their last non-conference game on the schedule.
