WSOC: Huskies Downed by the Cougars on the Road

HBU will head to Tennessee for the next two games

HOUSTON – In non-conference action on Sunday evening at the Carl Lewis International Complex on the University of Houston campus the HBU women's soccer team fell by a 3-0 margin.

The Huskies (0-3) earned three corner kicks in the first 11 minutes but were unable to get a shot on goal on the opportunities. UH (3-0-1) got on the board in the 21st minute with a goal by Madison Gear from right in front of the goal off a cross. In the first half, HBU goalkeeper Karla Ramirez totaled five saves.

The second Cougar goal came less than seven minutes into the second half with a Natalie Anderson cross into the box finding Jazmin Grant who found the net for a 2-0 UH lead. The Huskies' lone shot on goal of the match came in the 62nd minute off the foot of Mia Salas but it was collected by the UH keeper to preserve the shutout. The final goal of the game came for the Cougars at the 67:51 mark.

The Cougars held a 23-2 advantage in shots and tested Ramirez with 10 shots on goal. The Huskies earned six corner kicks while UH had eight. Ramirez finished the night with seven saves.

"This was a disappointing performance given what we had shown in the previous matches," said head coach Chris Dodd. "The effort was there but the execution was poor. We need to learn from this experience and find some consistency in our play."

HBU will leave Houston for the first time this season with a trip to Tennessee beginning on Thursday, Sep. 2, with a 3:30 p.m. matchup at Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. Before taking on Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn. On Sunday, Sep. 5 at 1:00 p.m.
