CORPUS CHRISTI – Huskies go 2-1 on the weekend against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference series after the doubleheader bounce back sweep, clinching their spot to the 2021 Southland Conference Tournament after not having seen a post-season conference tournament since 2014.
GAME TWO: Redshirt freshman Lyndie Swanson threw her ninth circle win in a complete game with a career game high 10 strikeout allowing one run on four hits and four walks in the 2-1 winner to clinch the SLC tournament spot for the Huskies (21-14, 14-10 SLC ).
Redshirt freshman left fielder Jasie Roberts helped HBU to their two runs, after a two RBI double in her first at-bat of the game. Sophomore first baseman Caitlyn Brockway and redshirt freshman shortstop Shelby Echols each went 1-for-3 scoring the two runs for the Huskies with sophomore third baseman Autumn Sydlik also going 1-for-3.
Ashleigh Sgambelluri went 2-for-3 while pinch hitter Daisy Gonzalez went 1-for-1 with a single to bring in Sgambelluri for the only run for the Islanders (18-27, 8-13 SLC) with Kennedy Jimenez going 1-for-2.
Beatriz Laura (13-10) threw a complete game giving up two runs on four hits while striking out three.
GAME THREE: Roberts went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the 2-0 win. She brought in six of the seven HBU runs for the weekend, eight out of nine for the week.
Echols went 2-for-3 and scored once while senior center fielder Riley Bullen went 1-for-3 bringing in the first run of the game after four scoreless innings by both teams.
Senior Jessica Patak threw her sixth complete game with the shut out win allowing four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.
The Islanders had four hits led by Pal Egan who went 2-for-3 while Gabrielle Torres went 1-for-3 and Tyler Noyola went 1-for-1.
Audrey McNeill (1-7) threw the complete seven innings in the loss giving up two runs on five hits and walking one while striking out five.
Huskies will face off with Stephen F. Austin on the road next weekend for their final three game series of the regular season with a doubleheader start on Friday, May 7 with the game three conclusion on Saturday.
