CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Senior
Noor Abukishk scored her fourth goal of the season to even the score in the 65
th minute and the HBU women's soccer team peppered the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi goal with 14 shots on target but finished the night with a 1-1 draw on Friday.
The HBU (3-10-2, 3-7-1 SLC) offense started early with
Avery Cortez putting a shot on target less than a minute and a half into the game but Islanders (4-8-4, 3-5-3 SLC) goalkeeper Kyleigh Hall made the save. The TAMUCC goal came on an HBU own goal in the 18
th minute. In total in the first half, HBU put four of six attempts on target while TAMUCC put three of four on the HBU goal with
Karla Ramirez coming up with all three saves.
A pair of freshmen tested Hall early in the second half with
Katie Marker and
Mia Salas both having shots stopped. In the 65
th minute,
Talin Rizo took a shot from just outside the 18 yard box that bounced off the crossbar and Abukishk was there to knock in the goal off the rebound. The Huskies then closed the half with six more attempts on goal to no avail as the two squads went to overtime.
Over the course of the two overtime periods, the Islanders held a 5-2 advantage in shot attempts but HBU's
Lauren Avila had the only shot on target, coming in the second overtime.
The Huskies entered the game needing a win to have a chance at qualifying for the Southland Conference Tournament.
Abukishk closes the season with four goals and four assists for 12 points. As a team, HBU held a 19-14 advantage in shot attempts with 14 on goal to TAMUCC"s three. The Huskies also earned 10 corner kicks while conceding six.
