HUNTSVILLE, Texas – HBU fell in the Southland Conference series finale to Sam Houston with a 4-1 loss on Saturday afternoon in Huntsville.
HBU (11-10,4-8 SLC) swept the doubleheader on Friday evening with an 8-0 no-hitter from junior Jessica Patak and a 2-0 game two victory. The Huskies had just five hits in the game three loss with three errors. Sophomore Caitlyn Brockway went 1-for-3 connecting a double to bring in the only run for the team. The Huskies had seven stranded runners throughout the seven innings.
Freshman Katy Janes (0-2) took the loss in the circle walking two batters and the first Bearkat hit in the start of the first inning, while giving up two runs. Sarah Venker (2-1) threw 1.1 innings giving up two runs on four hits walking one and striking out two. Lyndie Swanson (3-0) finished the remaining 4.2 innings allowing only two hits with a pair of walks and striking out one.
The Bearkats' (8-20,5-7 SLC) Katye Martinez went 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored while Sheridan Fisher went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Megan McDonald and Kyndal Kutac also added an RBI on the game.
Taylor Bachmeyer (1-5) earned the win for the Bearkats throwing 5.1 innings giving up one run on three hits while walking three and striking out six. Mika Vento (3-4) pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing only two hits and three strikeouts.
The Huskies will return home for a mid-week non-conference matchup against St. Thomas on Wednesday, April 7 at 6 p.m. and will host UIW for a weekend series on April 9 for the Friday doubleheader at 5 p.m. with a NOON series finale on Saturday.
