SB: Huskies Capture Doubleheader Sweep Against UIW

Caitlyn Brockway tallies fifth season homer

HOUSTON – Huskies go back-to-back weekends with a doubleheader sweep after taking the 2-0 victory to the UIW Cardinals on Friday night for the Southland Conference series at Husky Field.  

GAME ONE: Huskies took game one 6-4 batting a .357 with 13 hits in six innings with an error, holding the Cardinals to a .231 batting average with six hits.  

Redshirt sophomore Jasie Roberts went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk while sophomore Autumn Sydlik went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored once. Sophomore Caitlyn Brockway went 2-for-3 scoring once and redshirt freshman Shelby Echols went 2-for-4 scoring twice and bringing in a run. Seniors Hedi Jaquez and Riley Bullen each had a double on the game and an RBI.   

Junior Jessica Patak (5-7) took the win for the Huskies going 5.2 innings allowing three runs on four hits, walking six and striking out one. Redshirt freshman Lyndie Swanson pitched an inning allowing only one hit and striking out two.  

Maddie Boldt went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scoring twice while Jazmine Torres and Tori Alvarez-Lopez each brought in a run. 

Ashley Trapp (3-5) took the loss in the circle for UIW going 3.2 innings giving up three runs on eight hits while walking five and striking out one. Natalie Myers went 1.1 innings gave up three runs and five hits striking out one.  

GAME TWO: Huskies sealed the sweep 5-1 with Caitlyn Brockway adding her fifth homerun of the season. Huskies had 10 hits on the night batting .481 as a team. 

Brockway went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run while Sydlik went 2-for-4 scoring twice. Bullen went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scoring once while Jaquez and Sierra Humphrey each brought in a run.  

Lyndie Swanson (4-0) threw a full game for the win giving up six hits and just one run, walking two and striking out five.  

Lopez went 1-for-3 bringing in the Cardinals only run, and Savannah Behabetz went 2-for-3. Annie Gunther (4-7) threw the full seven innings for the loss giving up six runs on 10 hits, walking and striking out three.  

The third game of the series will be Saturday at noon on the Husky Sports Network to conclude the Southland Conference series.
