SB: Patak No-Hits SHSU as Huskies Sweep

Jessica Patak throws her first career no-hitter

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – HBU swept Sam Houston, shutting the Bearkats out twice, in the Southland Conference doubleheader Friday night in Huntsville. 

GAME ONE: Junior pitcher Jessica Patak (4-7) hurled her first career no-hitter, striking out three in six innings, with her only blemish being a hit batter, as the Huskies run-ruled the Bearkats, 8-0.   

Jasie Roberts started the second inning with a homerun to left center to put this Huskies 1-0 on the board. The Huskies kept the Bearkats scoreless going into the top of the fifth. With HBU bases loaded after Autumn Sydlik walked, Caitlyn Brockway hit a single up the middle to bring in two runs. The Huskies begin the top of the sixth with back-to-back singles from Riley Bullen and Riley Martin and a walk for Heidi Jaquez. Two outs and bases loaded, Sydlik cleared the bases with a double to left field for the 6-0 lead. With a 3-1 count and Sydlik on second, Brockway knocked a pitch to left field with her fourth homerun of the season to seal the 8-0 victory.  

Jaquez went 2-4 with two runs and Bullen went 2-3 with a run. Sydlik went 1-3 with 3 RBI and Brockway went 2-4 with 4 RBI. Shelby Echols and Roberts went 1-4 with a RBI from Roberts.

Regan Dunn (4-5) took the loss for the Kats giving up five runs and eight hits while walking two and striking out six in her five innings. Darby Fitzpatrick threw an inning giving up three runs and two hits while walking one.  


GAME TWO: HBU takes the nightcap holding Sam Houston scoreless once again, 2-0. 

Jaquez started the game with a single to put herself on base and advanced to second after Sydlik walked before the Huskies had two outs. Roberts stepped up to bat and knocked a ball down right center for the double to bring in HBU's two winning runs. Huskies weren't able to score again, but claimed the victory keeping the Bearkats from scoring.  

Roberts went 2-3 with 2 RBI while Jaquez and Sierra Humphrey went 1-3 with a run from Jaquez and Sydlik. 

Lyndie Swanson (3-0) had the win in the circle, pitching the complete-game shutout ,allowing just four hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. Mika Vento (3-5) took the loss for the Kats throwing seven innings giving up four hits and two runs while walking five and striking out two.  

The teams will meet Saturday at Noon for game three to wrap up the series.
