SB: Panthers Pull Away from HBU, 7-4

Junior OF Sierra Humphrey goes 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Huskies

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Huskies were able to outhit Prairie View A&M in their third matchup this season, but the Panthers were able to capitalize on theirs to claim the 7-4 rematch victory in the non-conference game on Tuesday evening at the Lady Panthers Softball Stadium. 

Junior right fielder Sierra Humphrey went 2-for-3 for HBU (14-11) with a triple in the sixth to bring in a run and scored once. Sophomore Caitlyn Brockway went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while freshman Kaicey Hagler went 2-for-3 scoring once. Senior Heidi Jaquez went 1-for-2 with a double and redshirt freshman Shelby Echols went 1-for-4 with both scoring once.  

Elliot Estes (0-1) took the loss in the circle giving up three runs on three hits walking three while striking out one. Sarah Venker (2-1) threw 0.1 giving up three runs and one hit while walking two. Katy Janes (0-2) finished the remaining 2.2 innings giving up one run and two hits while striking out two. 

Alexandria Lewis led the Panthers (11-10) bringing in three runs going 2-for-4 in the rematch with the Huskies. Jayla Richard went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Natalie Mclennan scored twice. Jeah Williams went 1-for-3 and scored once.  

Kara Fucci (1-0) took the win for the Panthers allowing one run on two hits walking two and striking out one throwing two innings in relief for Chaynau Johnson. Johnson gave up one run on three hits with a pair of walks and striking out two.  

The teams were tied after the third inning, but the Panthers knocked in six runs to take the heavy lead. Although the Huskies were the only ones to score in the remaining innings but came up short sealing their fate.  

HBU will return this weekend to continue SLC play in a three-game series to Central Arkansas at Husky Field.
