SB: Swanson's 1-0 Shut Out Splits DH with Central Arkansas for HBU

Lyndie Swanson has allowed just one run in the last 30.2 innings thrown

HOUSTON – HBU allowed just five hits and captured the 1-0 victory to split the Saturday doubleheader after the 5-2 loss to Central Arkansas at Husky Field. 

GAME ONE: HBU (15-12,8-9 SLC) was out hit by one, falling by three runs in game one.  

Redshirt freshman left field Jasie Roberts went 2-for-3 with an RBI, leading the team with 31 hits on the season and ranks first in SLC play with 25 hits. Sophomore pitcher Sarah Venker went 1-for-3 three with a double while scoring a run for HBU. Senior catcher Heidi Jaquez and sophomore third baseman Autumn Sydlik and freshman second baseman Kaicey Hagler each went 1-for-3 on the game.  

Kristen Whitehouse led for UCA (26-13,15-3 SLC) going 3-for-3 with a homerun scoring twice. Reagan Sperling went 2-for-3 with a home run to bring in two RBIs while Cylla Hill went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. 

The Bears got up early in the opening inning after a single Hill singled deep into left center two bring in two runs. The Huskies answered with one to finish the inning. Sperlilngs home run in the second inning gave the Bears a bigger lead and a sixth inning Whitehouse homer brought in the winning run. Johnson was able to go three-up three-down in the final two innings to nab the Huskies of coming back.

Junior Jessica Patak (5-8) took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits and walking two with a strikeout in two innings, the Venker allowed one run on four hits while striking out four.  

Jordan Johnson (9-4) took the win throwing a complete game allowing two runs on six hits and walking one while striking out 10.  

GAME TWO: Redshirt freshman Lyndie Swanson sealed the 1-0 shutout going three-up three-down in the final inning.  

Jaquez went 2-for-2 scoring the Huskies only run. Sydlik and Roberts went 1-for-3 while redshirt freshman Shelby Echols went 1-for-2 and sophomore Caitlyn Brockway earned the RBI reaching first on a fielder's choice in the first inning.

Swanson (6-0) threw the complete game with a shut allowing just five hits and a pair of walks with a pair of strikeouts for her third straight run free game. She allowed just one run in the last six games pitched.  

Game three will begin at Husky Field tomorrow at 2 p.m. and will be broadcasted on hbu.edu/live on channel one to wrap up the SLC series.
