WSOC: Huskies Drop Tight Matchup to UTSA

Karla Ramirez makes seven saves

HOUSTON - The HBU Women's Soccer team fought a tough battle in an out-of-conference matchup against the UTSA Roadrunners but fell 1-0 on Sunday evening at Sorrels Field with an early onslaught of shots from both teams saw the game still scoreless and the Roadrunners finding the game-winner in the second half.

The Huskies, (1-6-1) were pressured early by the Roadrunners (2-4-1) early with five shots in the first 10 minutes but responded with shots of their own by Mia Salas, Noor Abukishk and a Bryce Reynolds header that just missed high as they pressed the Roadrunners over the next six minutes. Both teams kept up the energy throughout the first half with UTSA attempting 14 shots to HBU's seven for a 21 total shots.

The start of the second half saw no let up with both teams went on the offensive. An early push by the Roadrunners saw a pair of saves by HBU keeper Karla Ramirez before a free kick set up the first and only score of the game in the 62nd minute when Sasjah Dade snuck one past Ramirez with an assist from Abby Kassal.

The Huskies responded with a late push with a barrage of shots attempted by Megan Rickert, Tayah Reynolds and Salas, putting the UTSA defense to the test. The Huskies out-shot the Roadrunners six to four in the second half with multiple close misses. Ramirez finished the game with seven saves compared to UTSA's Jil Schneider's six.

The Huskies will be at home at Sorrels Field on Friday, March 12th, to take on Abilene Christian at 7:00 p.m.
