HOUSTON – HBU softball split the Friday doubleheader, but fell to Abilene Christian in the final game of the series 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in their Southland Conference opener at Husky Field. HBU held three total hits on the game.
HBU (8-2,1-2 SLC) was down early with a Wildcat double to bring in their first run of the game. A Shelby Echols single put the Huskies on base, but three straight outs by ACU left Echols on third going into the second inning. ACU started the third with a runner on first and winning pitcher of the game Sam Bradley knocks a homerun to left field to put the Wildcats up 3-0. Top of the seventh with a Wildcat on first, Sam Bradley sent a deep ball to right field, giving the runner plenty of time to capture the winning run for ACU.
The HBU pitching staff saw action from Jessica Patak (3-3) with the loss in the circle going 2.0 innings giving up three runs on five hits with a walk and adding a strikeout. Lyndie Swanson went 5.0 innings giving up one run on four hits while adding three strikeouts.
ACU (6-14,2-1 SLC) bashed out nine hits on the game. Sam Bradley (3-6) dished the shut out with one walk and adding two strikeouts.
The Huskies will head to College Station to face off with the Texas A&M Aggies for a single game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16.
