HOUSTON – HBU men's soccer will kick-off its spring 2021 season this Saturday at home with a non-conference matchup against nearby St. Thomas with a 6:00 p.m. start at Sorrels Field.
The Huskies are coming off a 2019 season that saw the program return to the WAC tournament after a three-year absence. HBU won four of its last five regular season games to qualify for the tournament before dropping a heartbreaking 3-2 matchup to host Air Force.
Seniors
Gianluca Natera and
Jordi Cobo are the team's top returning scorers with each tallying three goals last season. Natera also had four assists last season while Cobo added two. Natera has totaled 10 goals and 11 assists through his first three seasons as a Husky. Sophomore
Luis Poblacion matched Natera for the team lead in assists with four while also scoring one goal.
St. Thomas finished 2019, the program's first season against a full NCAA Division III schedule, with a record of 10-6. Senior Luis Bencomo is the team's top returning goal scorer, finishing his junior year with three goals and three assists. As a team, the Celts out-scored opponents 22-16 last season.
The Huskies will open WAC play at home on Saturday, Feb. 13, when they host defending WAC champion Seattle for a 2:30 p.m. kick-off.
