WSOC: Huskies Set for Weekend Trips to McNeese, Lamar

HBU will play its first Friday-Sunday weekend of the season

LAKE CHARLES, La. – After last Friday's game against Central Arkansas was postponed the HBU women's soccer team will aim to play its first full weekend of Southland Conference games starting this Friday afternoon with a trip to face McNeese in Lake Charles at the Lake Charles Multi Sports Complex before facing Lamar on Sunday afternoon in Beaumont.
 
HBU (0-3-1, 0-2-0 SLC) is looking for its first win of the season having dropped the first three games played this spring. This past Sunday, the Huskies fell 2-0 to visiting Northwestern State 2-0 with an own goal and the Lady Demons' only score coming in the 25th minute. The Huskies put four shots on goal to NSU's five but couldn't find the net.
 
McNeese (1-1-0, 1-0-0 SLC) dropped its season-opener at Rice, 2-1, before defeating Nicholls at home, 2-0. The Cowgirls have gotten goals from three different players with sophomore Magalie Depot credited with assists on two of the team's three scores. In goal, sophomore Kelly Hines has earned both decisions with six saves and one goal against.
 
Defending Southland Conference champion Lamar (1-1-0, 0-1-0 SLC) is led by senior Esther Okoronkwo who has a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the Cardinals' win at Texas State in the fall. Fellow senior Madison Ledet has a pair of assists, both coming in LU's 3-2 overtime loss at Southeastern Louisiana. Sophomore Nicole Panis has recorded 12 saves through two matches while allowing three goals.
 
Friday's game will kick-off at 3:00 p.m. with Sunday's game slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
 
The Huskies return home for their next five matches at Sorrels Field beginning next weekend when they host Central Arkansas on Friday, Mar. 5, at 7:00 p.m. and UTSA on Sunday, Mar. 7, at 6:00 p.m.
