The Huskies (3-13, 2-6 SLC) and Cardinals (4-14, 2-7 SLC) met in Beaumont on Jan. 9 with the Cardinals taking an eight-point first half lead before HBU tied things up at the half, 30-30. HBU then jumped out to a nine-point advantage early in the second half and led by seven with eight minutes to go. A six-minute scoreless stretch doomed the Huskies, however, as the Cardinals reeled off 13-straight points and took home a 71-65 win over the Huskies.
Junior
Pedro Castro finished that game with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds while also blocking three shots. Castro leads the Huskies with four double-doubles this season.
Hunter Janacek added 10 points in that game, knocking down 3-of-6 from deep, and set a new career-high with seven assists.
Lamar comes into the game having dropped its last three games, all at home, with the most recent a 76-71 defeat at the hands of Nicholls this past Wednesday. LU got a career-high 24 points from freshman guard Kasen Harrison in the loss while junior Davion Buster finished with 14. Buster leads the Cardinals at 15.3 points per game for the season.
The Huskies are set for a quick turnaround to play the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in Corpus Christi, Texas on Monday, Feb. 15, at 7:00 p.m. at the American Bank Center.
