HOUSTON – The HBU men's basketball team is set for a Tuesday evening matchup against Champion Christian in Sharp Gym on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Husky fans can catch all the action on the Husky Sports Network broadcast with Garrett Jones on play-by-play, available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (2-5) are currently led in scoring by senior
Darius Lee with 11.9 points per game and sophomore
Brycen Long who is adding 10.7 ppg. In HBU's last game against Oral Roberts, Long set a new career-high with 18 points in his first start of the year. The sophomore guard was 4-of-5 from three-point range and is now shooting 48.5 percent (16-of-33) from deep on the year. Lee, meanwhile, put up his second straight double-double and his third in the last four games, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Lee is averaging 9.6 rebounds per game, good for 28
th nationally. In his last two games, Lee is shooting 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the floor.
Junior
Sam Hofman set a new career-best with eight rebounds against ORU and added nine points. Sophomore guard
Jade Tse had 10 in the last game for a new season-high in scoring while his four assists were also his highest total so far this year.
Champion Christian (2-5) most recently defeated Dallas Christian at home, 95-79, and has played four NCAA Division I opponents, losing to each. The Tigers are led by a pair of juniors, Braylon Hawkins and Ariyon Williams. Hawkins leads the team with 22.7 ppg and 9.6 rpg while shooting 39 percent (18-of-46) from three. Williams, meanwhile, is adding 17.7 ppg and leads the way with 5.1 assists per game.
The Huskies and Tigers met for the first time last season with HBU taking a 93-60 victory.
Za-Ontay Boothman led all players in that game with 23 points with the Huskies shooting 57.4 percent (35-of-61) from the floor and 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from three as a team.
The Huskies will close out their four-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 11, with a visit from crosstown rival Rice at 7:00 p.m.
