AUSTIN, Texas – The 2021-22 men's basketball season opened at the Frank Erwin Center on Tuesday evening the HBU Huskies, falling 92-48 to fifth-ranked Texas.

Early on, Texas (1-0) held a 3-2 lead but consecutive turnovers forced by the Huskies (0-1) each led to buckets with Sam Hofman knocking down a three and Za-Ontay Boothman earning and one-one opportunity, putting HBU ahead 7-3 at the 17:36 mark. The Longhorns answered with an 11-0 run, however, to go ahead 14-7 just over five minutes into the half.

Deshon Proctor and Brycen Long combined to score the Huskies' next eight points as part of an 8-4 run to pull within three, 18-15. The Longhorns scored the next 12 points, however, and maintained a double-digit advantage to lead by 16, 43-27, at the intermission.

Proctor, a freshman, impressed in his collegiate debut with 10 points and led all players with seven rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench. He was 4-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-2 from behind the arc. Boothman led the Huskies with 12 points, connecting on 5-of-12 from the field.

Darius Lee was 4-of-7 shooting for 11 points off the bench and pitched in five rebounds. The Huskies were narrowly out-rebounded by the Longhorns, 32-31, and pulled down 16 rebounds on the offensive end.

The Huskies finished the night shooting 32.7 percent (16-of-49) from the field and 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from three-point range. The turnover battle went to Texas with the Longhorns forcing into 17 miscues while committing 11.
