CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The HBU women's soccer team fell in a 4-0 decision to No. 3 seed UIW on day one of the Southland Conference Soccer Tournament at Dugan Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M –Corpus Christi on Wednesday.
UIW (7-10-2, 6-5-1 SLC) took a 1-0 lead in the 23
rd minute with Isabella Beletic finding the net with an assist from Lauren Miller. The Huskies (4-14-1, 4-8 SLC) came within inches of tying the score 10 minutes after Beletic's goal when junior
Ryan Ford let loose from the edge of the 18-yard box with a curling shot that UIW keeper Makenzie Hall just got a hand on with a leaping save, directing the ball off the post to preserve the Cardinals' lead.
Lauren Avila had a shot on goal just a minute after Ford but it was stopped by Hall. UIW added to its lead just before the half with Beletic again scoring in the 44
th minute.
It took less than two minutes into the second half for the Cardinals to score goal three, coming off the foot of Sierra Wannamaker. Eve Clarkson closed out the scoring with a goal at the 81:00 mark. HBU's lone attempt on goal in the second half came from
Katie Marker in the 89
th minute.
Both teams finished the game with 12 shot attempts with UIW holding a 7-3 edge in attempts on goal. The two teams also both earned six corner kicks. In goal for the Huskies,
Karla Ramirez finished with four saves.
