HOUSTON – Five HBU players scored in double-figures while senior
Darius Lee and freshman
Deshon Proctor recorded double-doubles as the Huskies downed visiting Southwestern Adventist, 100-62, in Sharp Gym on Monday evening.
Lee led all players with 19 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes on the floor for his second double-double of the season. He was 8-of-9 shooting from the floor and a perfect 3-of-3 from the foul line. He also added three assists and a pair of steals. Proctor, meanwhile, finished with career-highs of 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore
Brycen Long added 15 for HBU (2-4), hitting 6-of-13 from the field, and also had five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
Sam Hofman was 5-of-10 from the floor with 11 points and six rebounds while
Zach Iyeyemi added 11 points and seven boards.
The Huskies out-rebounded Southwestern Adventist (2-4) by 36, pulling down 60 total rebounds to the Knights' 24. As a team, HBU shot 45.9 percent (34-of-74) for the game but shot just 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from behind the arc. The Knights ended the night shooting 38.2 percent (21-of-55).
SWAU hung around for the first part of the game, not allowing HBU to get out to more than a quick five-point lead to start the game before keeping it close and holding a 20-19 lead on the Huskies just under 10 minutes into the contest. That sparked the Huskies to an 18-3 run to go ahead by 14 with a little over four minutes left in the half before heading into the locker rooms ahead by 23, 51-28.
In the second half, the Knights made a push to get back in it, getting to within 18 at the 17:40 mark but four minutes later, HBU had pushed its lead up to 29, 68-39. Proctor played a big role in the Huskies increasing their lead, nearly posting a double-double in the second half alone with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The win marks career victory number 499 for James Sears Bryant Head Men's Basketball Coach
Ron Cottrell, all of which have come as head coach of the Huskies.
HBU continues its homestand this Saturday, Dec. 4, with a visit from Oral Roberts for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
