HOUSTON – The HBU men's basketball team is set to open the home portion of its schedule this Saturday evening inside Sharp Gym against the Barclay Bears at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's game will be broadcast on the Husky Sports Network with Garrett Jones on play-by-play, available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (0-1) opened the season at No. 5 Texas on Tuesday, falling to the Longhorns. Sophomore
Za-Ontay Boothman led the team with 12 points while senior
Darius Lee added 11 points and five rebounds of the bench. Freshman
Deshon Proctor led all players with seven rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench and also finished with 10 points. As a team, HBU pulled down 16 offensive rebounds of 31 total, losing the rebounding back with Texas by just one, 32-31.
Barclay (1-4) picked up its first win of the season on Thursday, Nov. 11, with a home win over Southwestern Adventist. The Bears lost their first four games of the season. Sophomore guard DJ Hudspeth led the team through four games with 20.8 points per game, shooting 36 percent from the floor. Junior Davion Knight is second on the team at 15 ppg and leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Huskies and Bears have met once before, during the 2017-18 season, with HBU taking a 100-65 victory. In that game, Braxton Bonds recorded the third triple-double in program history with 16 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.
HBU will open a three-game road stretch on Wednesday, Nov. 17, when they make the short trip to Bryan-College Station, Texas for a noon tip-off against the Texas A&M Aggies inside Reed Arena.
