MSOC: Huskies Downed by RedHawks, 4-0

Huskies travel to San Jose State to play on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST

SEATTLE, Washington – The HBU men's soccer team was on the losing end of a 4-0 Western Athletic Conference Men's Soccer match against Seattle U at Championship Field Friday night.

The Huskies (3-13-0, 1-8-0 WAC) were aggressive early in the first half, getting several shots off early including shots by Luis Poblacion and Nathan Karmbor which were both on goal.

It was the RedHawks (10-7-0, 6-3-0 WAC) who got on the board in the 10th minute when  LaVante Johnson found Hal Uderitz down the sideline who sent in a cross that Declan McGlynn was able to finish off. The remainder of the first half was a battle for possession by both sides. In the 17th minute Bangelee Sesay sent a shot into the upper left had corner of goal, nearly tying the game for the Huskies, but the Redhawks keeper was there to make the save and preserve their 1-0 lead. Seattle U would take their 1-0 lead into the half.

Seattle U turned it up a notch in the second half scoring three more times. In the 61st minute Levonte Johnson sent a shot past a diving Husky keeper into the bottom right corner of the goal to extend the lead 2-0. McGlynn got on the board again for Seattle U in the 69th minute when Noe Meza sent a touch pass to McGlynn who was able to shoot it past the Husky keeper to make the lead 3-0. Off of a corner kick in the 79th minute, Sam Tessler sent a ball that ricoched off of several Husky defenders past a leaping JP Becerra to cap of the scoring for Seattle U at 4-0. The Huskies only shot on goal in the second half came on a Bryant Farkarlun chip shot attempt that the RedHawks' keeper was able to get in front of and make the save.

For the match, the Huskies trailed the RedHawks in total shots and shots on goal, 17(13) – 7(4). Husky goalkeeper JP Becerra made eight saves on the night, just one shy of matching a career high. RedHawks goalkeeper Akili Kasim made four saves and kept a clean sheet on the night.

The Huskies play their second to last game of the season at San Jose State Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. CST before returning home to Sorrells Field next weekend for Senior Day when they host Chicago State on Saturday.
