SAN ANTONIO – HBU football heads west on I-10 this Saturday for a Southland Conference matchup against No. 22 UIW at 3:00 p.m. at Benson Stadium. The game will be aired live in ESPN+ while Garrett Jones will bring Husky fans play-by-play on the Husky Sports Network audio broadcast.
 
Sophomore wide receiver Tyson Thompson continues to be electric as a return man, taking a kickoff 89 yards for a score against Nicholls this past Saturday. Thompson is first among all Division I players, FBS or FCS, in combined kick return yards with 726 total yards on punts and kickoffs. The reigning SLC Special Teams Player of the Week also ranks second in the FCS in all-purpose yards, averaging 152.14 yards per game.
 
As a defensive unit, the Huskies (0-7, 0-4 SLC) are third in the FCS in fumbles recovered with 10. Freshman safety Xavier Toliver has forced three fumbles individually, tied for fifth-most in the nation. Freshman linebacker Rodney Dansby leads the Huskies with 70 tackles and his 10 tackles per game average for the 13th-best average nationally. Dansby recorded 14 tackles last weekend against Nicholls and forced a fumble. Senior linebacker Brennan Young leads the team with 6.5 tackles for a loss and is second with 64 tackles.
 
True freshman quarterback Orion Olivas is 61-of-122 passing for 574 yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions, starting the last two games. Thompson leads the team with 340 receiving yards while Charles King has hauled in a team-high five touchdown catches.
 
UIW (5-2, 3-1 SLC) quarterback Cameron Ward has thrown for 2,479 yards on 198-of-313 passing, connecting for 22 touchdowns with six interceptions. Receiver Taylor Grimes has 51 receptions for 689 yards and leads the conference with nine receiving touchdowns. On the ground, Kevin Brown has 87 carries for 469 yards and seven scores.
 
Kelechi Anyalebechi has a conference-leading 75 tackles with six tackles for a loss. Kaleb Culp is second for the Cardinals with 52.
 
The last two meetings between the Huskies and Cardinals have both been decided by two points with UIW coming out on top in each. The Huskies are seeking their first win against the Cardinals.
 
HBU will remain on the road next weekend with a visit to Natchitoches, La. for a return game against the Northwestern State Demons on Saturday, Nov. 6.
