LAKE CHARLES, La. – HBU had more shots and shots on goal but was unable to find the net, falling to the host McNeese Cowgirls in Southland women's soccer action on Friday evening at Cowgirl Field.
Early on, McNeese (11-4-2, 8-2-1 SLC) put the first shot of the game on target with Abbi Morrell testing
Karla Ramirez but the HBU (4-12-1, 4-7 SLC) keeper made the stop. The Huskies'
Ryan Ford and
Caroline Havard both put shots on goal within a minute of each other but were unable to get the ball past Emma Roccaforte. The Cowgirls scored the game-winner in the 35
th minute with Kelsey Crosby scoring thanks to an assist from Havana Johnson.
Reigning Southland player of the week
Katie Marker put an attempt to the bottom right of the goal in the 54
th minute.
Caroline Gillispie and
Evelyn Slaughter both also had shots on goal that were stopped in the second half.
HBU held a 13-8 advantage in shot attempts with six shots on goal to the Cowgirls' five. The Huskies also earned the lone corner kick of the game.
The Huskies will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Sorrels Field against the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 7:00 p.m. for Senior Night.
