HOUSTON – After opening Southland Conference play with an exciting overtime victory the HBU men's basketball next sets its sights on the visiting Abilene Christian Wildcats inside Sharp Gym on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday's game will be broadcast on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play available at HBUHuskies.com.
 
HBU (2-7, 1-0 SLC) overcame a 12-point deficit to down Northwestern State in overtime this past Saturday, marking the third-consecutive season the Huskies have won their first home conference game of the season in overtime. The Huskies got a 30-point, 10-rebound effort from junior Darius Lee to earn SLC Player of the Week honors and shot 44.4 percent as a team in earning the win over the Demons.
 
The Huskies currently lead the SLC in three-point shooting percentage and rank 18th nationally, connecting on 39.9 percent (87-of-218) from behind the arc. The team's 9.7 made threes per game also leads the league and places HBU 30th among Division I teams. HBU also leads the conference in free throw percentage, making 74.8 percent of shots from the foul line as a team.
 
Abilene Christian (9-2, 1-0 SLC) enters Wednesday's game having won its last two, including an 83-65 home win over Lamar on Saturday. In that win, the Wildcats shot 43.5 percent as a team and 45 percent from long-range. Senior guard Coryon Mason led ACU with 21 points while fellow senior Kolton Kohl added 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
 
The Wildcats currently lead the country in in turnovers forced with opponents averaging 22.7 miscues per game. Their 10.4 steals per game is the eighth-highest average in the nation. Mason and Kohl lead ACU in scoring with the former averaging 11.1 ppg and the latter adding 10.2 ppg.
 
HBU has lost its last four matchups with the Wildcats with ACU winning both games last season. The Huskies and Wildcats will meet again on Feb. 10 in Abilene.
 
The Huskies will be on the road but not too far from home for their next two games, first visiting Lamar in Beaumont on Saturday, Jan. 9, and then heading to Huntsville on Saturday, Jan. 16.
