HOUSTON – HBU and McNeese are set for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off this Saturday inside Sharp Gym with the Huskies aiming to snap a four-game skid ahead of a stretch of four road games that will keep the Huskies away from their home floor for three weeks. Husky fans can watch the action live on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play available at HBUHuskies.com.
HBU (2-11, 1-4 SLC) most recently fell to Nicholls after a back-and-forth first half saw 15 lead changes before the Colonels got hot in the second half shooting over 60 percent from the floor and from three. Junior
Pedro Castro led the Huskies with 17 points and seven rebounds and freshman
Brycen Long scored a career-high 15 points in his first career start. Freshman
Jade Tse also got the start and dished out eight assists to go along with nine points.
The Huskies continue to pace the Southland Conference in blocked shots, both in conference play and for the entire season. HBU has 54 blocked shots on the season for an average of 4.15 per game and has upped that average against conference foes, averaging 4.4 bpg in five SLC contests. The Huskies 54 blocks this season already matches the program's total for the entire 2018-19 season and is just 10 behind last season's 64.
McNeese (6-8, 0-5 SLC) boasts an experienced roster with eight seniors and three juniors with the team's top five scorers all seniors. The Cowboys have been out-scored by more than 11 points per game in their five SLC games. This past Wednesday, McNeese dropped a 92-88 decision at home to Southeastern Louisiana with five different players scoring in double-figures.
In conference play, senior Keyshawn Feazell leads the way offensively with 17.8 ppg and is shooting 63.4 percent from the floor. Fellow senior A.J. Lawson is first on the squad with 7.4 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game while also adding 13.8 ppg. Dru Kuxhausen, meanwhile, is one of the most prolific three-point shooters in the country averaging 3.57 made threes per game, the fourth-highest average nationally.
The Huskies' upcoming four-game road stretch begins on Wednesday, Jan. 27, with a visit to San Antonio to take on UIW at 7:00 p.m.
