SAN MARCOS, Texas – HBU dropped a three-set decision to Texas State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21), in non-conference volleyball Saturday night at Strahan Coliseum.
Junior outside hitter
Kelly Colwell recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 13 digs for the Huskies (1-4). Senior outside hitter
Mikayla Vivens fell just shy of a double-double with nine kills and 15 digs, while junior middle blocker
Jada Allen had four kills and five blocks. Sophomore setter
Ellie Wipf dished out 26 assists and added nine digs, while sophomore libero
Marisabel Torres-Rivera led HBU with 17 digs.
Lauren Teske had 10 kills and 12 digs for the Bobcats (4-1). Tyeranee Scott had nine kills and Janell Fitzgerald chipped in seven, while Jillian Slaughter and Caitlan Buettner each had six. Emily Dewalt registered 36 assists, 10 digs and four kills. Kayla Granado led Texas State with 15 digs and Kayla Tello added 12.
Texas State hit .184, while holding HBU to .087. The Huskies outdug the Bobcats, 65-64, and outblocked them, 7-4, but Texas State served up five aces to none by HBU.
The two programs will square off again Saturday at 11 a.m. and will be shown on ESPN+. The match will be the final match in the Huskies' abbreviated fall schedule.
