LUBBOCK, Texas – HBU and Texas Tech have reached an agreement to meet on the football field on Sept. 12, 2020, at Jones AT&T Stadium, athletic department officials from both institutions announced Thursday.
Texas Wesleyan, a member of the NAIA, canceled the game at HBU originally scheduled for that date. The Huskies will now open the season with four-straight road games, three against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents for the first time in program history, then the Southland Conference opener at Northwestern State. Texas Tech, a member of the Big 12 Conference, will also mark the HBU's first-ever meeting against a "Power 5" foe.
The Huskies were already scheduled to open the season on the road against North Texas on Sept. 5, then recently announced a Sept. 19 road game against Louisiana Tech to replace Texas Southern, when the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) postponed its season. UNT and Louisiana Tech are both members of Conference USA.

Zach Kittley is the son of long-time Texas Tech head track and field coach Wes Kittley, while special teams coordinator and running backs coach
Tyler Schovanec is the son of Texas Tech president Dr. Lawrence Schovanec. Offensive line coach
Jared Kaster was a three-year starter for the Red Raiders at center. All three previously served on the Red Raiders' football staff before joining the Huskies.
The Big 12 announced Monday its member institutions would transition to a 10-game schedule, with a "9+1" format, which includes its nine conference games, plus one non-conference opponent.
Kickoff time, television broadcast information and Texas Tech's plans for seating at Jones AT&T Stadium will be announced at a later date.
