HOUSTON –On Friday morning, HBU James Sears Bryant Head Men's Basketball Coach Ron Cottrell announced the addition of Tay Boothman to the Huskies' 2020-21 recruiting class with the signing of a National Letter of Intent to join the HBU program.

Tay Boothman – Buckeye, Arizona (Buckeye High School), 6-1, 160 lb., Guard

Boothman, a 6-1 guard from Buckeye, Arizona, is coming to HBU after a senior season at Buckeye High School where he played for coach Randy Bland and helped lead the Hawks to a 24-5 record. During his senior year, Boothman averaged 26 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. He earned region player of the year and offensive player of the year honors while also being named all-Arizona and all-conference. He earned all-region honors three times during his prep career and was part of a regional championship team all four years of high school. He played club for PowerHouse Hoops and coach John Ortega.

Boothman on HBU:

"I chose HBU because their style of play and the pace they play fits my game. Another reason I chose HBU is because they're currently rebuilding the program and I want to be a part of that opportunity."

Cottrell on Boothman:

"Tay Boothman is a highly decorated recruit out of the Arizona high school ranks, being named a first team all-state selection as a senior. Tay is another player who we feel will meet several needs for us. Tay's primary position is as a scoring point guard. He is a terrific leader at that position who understands how to run his team and make his teammates better. And while Tay is great at getting his team involved, he is also very adept at scoring the ball, as well. So when he is asked, he can easily slide over to the shooting guard spot in our system and be equally as effective. Tay is someone our fans will really enjoy watching play."

Cottrell on 2020-21 recruiting class:

"These young men collectively bring us experience, versatility and athleticism. But more importantly, they are all products of winning programs who value competing and team success above all else. This group of guys (including early signee, Brycen Long) will come to HBU ready to compete at the highest level every day they step on the floor. We are thrilled to add these young men to our returning squad. We are very confident that this team will work hard to represent HBU in a first-class manner and compete for a Southland championship."
