MADEIRA BEACH, FLORIDA – The HBU Huskies finish out the Spring Games Tournament with a 3-2 walk off win over the Seton Hall Pirates.
For the Huskies Freshman
Lyndie Swanson took the circle silencing the Pirates in the first inning. The Huskies freshman outfielder
Jasie Roberts hit a two out double but was tagged out on a fielder's choice by
Katy Schaefer to end the inning.
In the top of the second inning Pandolfo for the Pirates hit a one out solo homerun to give them a 1-0 lead.
Seton Hall and the Huskies went silent for the next two innings until the bottom of the fourth inning when Roberts walked and advanced to second on a Schaefer groundout followed by a
Caitlyn Brockway groundout, advancing Roberts to third base. Senior
Heidi Jaquez steps up to the plate with a 1-0 count and reaches base on an error by the Pirates 2B that scored Roberts to tie the game up at 1-1.
Both teams had a scoreless fifth inning until the top of the sixth Allender for the Pirates walked after a Barracato double to center field giving the Pirates a runner in scoring position. Barracato was thrown out at third base on a fielder's choice by Beaver. Pandolfo comes up for the Pirates with two runners on and two outs and clutched a single to left field that scored Allender giving the Pirates a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Huskies answered back immediately in the bottom of the sixth inning with a
Shelby Echols single who advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Roberts putting Echols into scoring position. Brockway steps up to the plate with two outs and Echols at second base and delivers a game tying double to center field to tie the game up at 2-2. Jaquez singled following Brockway but both runners were stranded to end the inning.
Seton Hall went down in order in the top of the seventh as it allows the Huskies to have an opportunity to walk off for the second game in a row. A
Riley Bullen single to lead off the bottom half of the inning put pressure on Pirates pitcher Sobel who started the game. An
Amber Lotz groundout to second base allowed Bullen to advance into scoring position and then advanced to third on an
Avery Drake groundout to second base. Freshman second baseman
Shelby Echols comes up to the plate for the Huskies with two outs and delivers the game winning hit to right field to seal the win for the Huskies improving their record to 11-8 on the year. Swanson improved to 3-0 on the year throwing her third complete game.
