THIBODAUX, Louisiana – The HBU Huskies head to Thibodaux, Louisiana to faceoff with the Nicholls Colonels in Southland Conference basketball Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in the David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
The Huskies (6-19, 2-14 SLC) rank second in the conference in blocked shots as a team averaging 4.2 per game. Sophomore center
Marilyn Nzoiwu leads her team in blocked shots with 28 on the year which also ranks her sixth in the conference. Nzoiwu also leads the Huskies in rebounds per game averaging 5.0 rebounds per game. Junior guard
Megan Valdez-Crader ranks sixth in the conference in steals per game holding an average of 2.0 steals per game. Valdez-Crader also leads the team in scoring with an average of 11.3 points per game and ranks 18
th in the conference just four spots ahead of freshman guard
Timia Jefferson's 11.0 ppg who ranks 22
nd. Valdez Crader also ranks 12
th in the conference in assists per game and leads the Huskies with an average of 2.7. The Huskies are coming off a season high 21 free throws made while averaging 64.4 percent from the free throw line.
The Colonels (10-16, 7-10 SLC) are on a four-game win streak and have scored their opponents 256-233 in the last four matchups. Nicholls is led by Chrystal Ezechukwu who leads the team in average points per game with 13.0 which ranks her 10
th in the conference. Ari Hamilton has scored more points that Ezechukwu but holds an average of 12.0 ppg ranking her 17
th just ahead of Valdez-Crader. Hamilton also ranks fifth in the conference in field goal percentage and leads her team with 50.0 percent of her shots made. Tykeria Williams leads the team and ranks third in the conference with an average of 2.5 steals per game.
The Huskies will return home this Saturday to battle the McNeese Cowgirls at 2 p.m. the first of a Husky double header that the Men's team finishes off the night hosting the McNeese Cowboys at 7 p.m. in Sharp Gym.
