HOUSTON – The HBU men's basketball team is set to take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders this Saturday evening inside Sharp Gym in a Southland Conference matchup. Husky fans can watch all the action on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play via HBUHuskies.com.

Jalon Gates became the 31
st player in program history and the second this season to reach 1,000 career points for the Huskies (1-17, 1-8 SLC).
Ian DuBose reached 1,000 earlier this season and the last time HBU had multiple players hit the 1,000-point threshold in a single season came during the 2001-02 season when four different players hit the milestone over the course of the year.
The Islanders (9-13, 5-6 SLC) saw their three-game winning streak snapped this past Wednesday when they dropped a road contest to Sam Houston State, 80-61, in Hunstville. TAMUCC is led offensively by junior guard Myles Smith who is averaging 12.9 ppg. Smith is also tied for the team lead with 61 assists and has a team-best 20 steals. Senior Jashawn Talton-Thomas led the team with six rpg while adding 11 ppg and Jordan Hairston, a freshman, is averaging 11.8 ppg. Each of those three has also attempted at least 68 three-pointers this season and is shooting at least 38 percent from behind the arc.
The Huskies and Islanders split a pair of games last season with HBU coming out on top, 73-72, at home and falling by a score of 76-69 on the island.
The Huskies make their last trip to Louisiana this season for a mid-week matchup against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Hammond, La. for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
