HOUSTON – HBU returns home to Sharp Gym this Wednesday evening for a Southland Conference men's basketball matchup with the UIW Cardinals with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. Husky fans can watch all the action on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play via HBUHuskies.com.

The Huskies (1-16, 1-7 SLC) have improved on the boards over the last five games, out-rebounding opponents by more than five rebounds per game during that stretch. For the season, HBU is minus-3.3 on the boards and plus-0.6 in conference play.

In the Huskies' last game at McNeese, freshman forward Jason Thompson played a season-high 23 minutes off the bench and posted new career-highs of 13 points and eight rebounds. In just the third game of his collegiate career he was 5-of-10 from the field and pulled down five of his rebounds on the offensive end.

Senior guard Jalon Gates now stands just 10 points away from 1,000 for his career. In 100 career games, the senior has totaled 990 points and made 207 three-pointers, becoming just the third HBU player in history to surpass 200 two games ago against Nicholls.

UIW (4-15, 1-7 SLC) comes into Wednesday's game having dropped the last four games, including a 68-47 home loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this past Saturday. The Cardinals are led in scoring by a pair of freshmen guards with Keaston Willis 12.3 per game while Drew Lutz adds 11.1. Lutz also leads the squad with 65 assists and 24 steals for the year. Vincent Miszkiewicz, a freshman forward, leads the way on the boards with 7.8 rebounds per game. That total ranks fifth among SLC players.

HBU won both meetings last season with the game in Houston ending 118-111 in the Huskies' favor. The Huskies have won the last three games played in Sharp Gym and four of the last five total.

HBU will host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders this Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7:00 p.m. as part of a staggered double-header as the women play TAMUCC at home at 2:00 p.m.
