HBU Posts Highest Semester GPA Since Return to NCAA

HBU’s student-athletes cumulatively posted a GPA over 3.2 for the Fall 2019 semester

HOUSTON – For the Fall 2019 semester, HBU's 353 student-athletes posted the highest cumulative grade point average since the university's return to NCAA Division I.

"We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom in addition to their work in their respective sports," said Director of Athletics Steve Moniaci. "Collectively getting above the 3.2 threshold has been a goal for the department for several years, and this is a testament to not only the athletes' accomplishments, but to the hard work of our athletic department, both coaches and staff, and to the entire university faculty and community."

Those 353 student-athletes, across the athletic department's 17 programs, have recorded a cumulative gpa of 3.21 for the department's best mark since 2007 when the school began the transition back to NCAA Division I.

"The student-athletes' cumulative grade point averages have been trending up for many years and we are so proud that they have now reached a 3.21. This is a university victory that has combined the efforts of coaches, faculty and athletic department staff as we have worked vigilantly alongside our student-athletes. We look forward to continued academic success in the years to come!" said HBU Director of Academics Samantha Bottoms.

HBU has been recognized by the Southland Conference for its academic achievement regularly, winning the league's Academic Performance Award each of the last four years.
