HOUSTON – HBU will wrap up a three-game homestand this Saturday evening inside Sharp Gym when the Husky men's basketball team faces off against Sam Houston State at 7:00 p.m. in a Southland Conference matchup. Husky fans can watch or listen to every second of the action on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King calling the action via HBUHuskies.com.

Senior Jalon Gates continued his march up the program's all-time three-pointers made list in the Huskies' (1-13, 1-4 SLC) last game with his fourth trey of the night giving him 198 for his career and moving him into in program history. He is now 41 away from Bobby Sanders and second place on the list. Gates also stands at 951 career points, just 49 shy of becoming the 31st Husky to reach 1,000 for his career.

The Huskies continue to shoot well from beyond the arc as a team, ranking 25th in the nation and second in the conference with a 37.9 percent (119-of-314) from deep. Gates is connecting at a 39.8 percent clip while Qon Murphy is 12-of-26 (46.2 percent) from three and Ty Dalton has made 10-of-18 (55.6 percent). Only McNeese has been better from three in the SLC this season.

The Bearkats (12-6, 5-2 SLC) come into the game having split their last four SLC contests. Most recently, SHSU erased a six-point deficit with 21 seconds to go at Lamar to force overtime and come away with an 80-75 victory over the Cardinals.

SHSU has been among the most disruptive defensive teams in the country thus far, ranking sixth in NCAA Division I in steals per game with 9.8. Senior guard Chad Bowie is eighth nationally with 2.65 spg and leads the conference. Fellow senior Kai Mitchell leads the Bearkats with 14.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

The last time the two teams met saw the Huskies erase a 25-point deficit in the final 5:17 of regulation to force overtime with the Bearkats ultimately prevailing 119-113 in double overtime. HBU is 10-16 all-time against SHSU.

The Huskies will travel to Louisiana for a pair of games next week beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 22, against Nicholls in Thibodaux, La.
