VB: Huskies Fall to Washington St., Sweep TSU

Vivens posts fourth-straight double-double vs. Cougars



EDINBURG, Texas - HBU fell to Washington State in the morning, but rebounded with a sweep over Texas Southern on the first day of the UTRGV Tournament Friday at UTRGV Fieldhouse.

The Huskies (7-7) downed Texas Southern, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-17).

Junior outside hitter Mikayla Vivens played only two sets, recording eight kills and seven digs, while sophomore middle blockers Jada Allen and Ebonie Ballesteros each had six kills. Junior setter Morgan Dewyer had 34 assists, 11 digs, four kills and two aces. Senior defensive specialist Camie Copeland led HBU with 17 digs.

Jada Hall led the Tigers with six kills and Alexis Austin had four. Valencia Grayson came up with 15 digs and Nia Ford had nine. Bryanna York recorded 13 assists.

HBU hit .229, while holding TSU to .094, with the Huskies outdigging the Tigers, 55-45.

In the morning, HBU took a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-22) loss to Washington State.

Vivens posted her fourth-straight double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Kelly Colwell had five kills and 11 digs. Dewyer recorded 23 assists, seven digs and three kills.

Alexcis Lusby had 11 kills and five blocks for the Cougars and Pia Timmer had nine kills and seven digs. Hannah Pukis handed out 28 assets and had six digs. Alexis Dirige led WSU with 13 digs and Magda Jehlarova had seven blocks.

The Cougars hit .190 and held the Huskies to .035. WSU outdug HBU, 48-42, and outblocked them, 10.0-5.0.

HBU closes out the tournament against host UT Rio Grande Valley Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
