Kelly Colwell each recorded a double-double as HBU escaped with a 3-2 (25-19, 25-27, 25-20, 15-25, 15-13) victory over UT Rio Grande Valley to close out the UTRGV Tournament Saturday afternoon at UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Colwell led the Huskies (8-7) with 16 kills to go along with 17 digs, while Vivens had 10 kills and 22 digs. Junior middle blocker
Megan Patillo posted eight kills, six blocks and four aces, sophomore middle blocker
Ebonie Ballesteros added nine kills and freshman right side
Anna Gadway had eight kills. Junior setter
Morgan Dewyer dished out 39 assists and added four kills, 11 digs and four aces. Senior libero
Camie Copeland came up with a career-high 31 digs and senior defensive specialist
Hannah Lewis contributed 14.
Sarah Cruz had 19 kills and 19 digs, while Barbara Silva had 18 kills and six digs for UTRGV (6-8). Veronika Jandova chipped in with nine kills, six digs and three blocks. Debora Nazario handed out 48 assists and had nine digs, while Samaret Caraballo led UTRGV defensively with 25 digs and Ioanna Charitonidi had 15.
UTRGV outhit HBU, .152-.141, but the Huskies held the advantage in digs, 99-96, blocks, 8.5-6.0, and aces, 12-8.
The Huskies return to action when they begin Southland Conference play on the road at Central Arkansas Thursday, followed by Northwestern State Saturday.
