WSOC: HBU Returns Home for Two Matches

#17 TCU and UTSA visit Sorrels Field to close out non-conference play



HOUSTON – After four games away from home the HBU women's soccer team returns to Sorrels Field for its final two non-conference games, hosting the 17th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs on Thursday and the UTSA Roadrunners on Sunday.
 
HBU (1-4-0) dropped a pair of games on the road at Buffalo and Niagara last weekend, falling 3-0 to the Bulls and 1-0 to the Purple Eagles. As a team, the Huskies own a shots on goal percentage of .564, putting 22 of 39 shot attempts on target.
 
Junior Avery Cortez leads the offensive attack with three goals on 10 shot attempts while freshman Xya Balderas has a pair of goals on just five shots. In goal, redshirt freshman Ashtyn Franks has started all five games and holds a 1.65 goals against average with a .724 save percentage.
 
TCU (5-1-0) comes to Houston riding a five-game winning streak with their most recent victory coming at home over Ohio State, 3-2. As a team, the Horned Frogs have outscored opponents 16-4 with four shutouts in six matches. Freshman Gracie Brian leads the team with five goals and two assists for 12 points while sophomore Messiah Bright has 11 points on four goals and three assists.
 
The Roadrunners (3-2-0) will host Oral Roberts on Friday, Sept. 13, before coming to town on Sunday, Sept. 15. UTSA has played one common opponent with the Huskies, falling to Texas State 1-0 at home on Aug. 30. Junior Ellis Patterson leads UTSA with three goals on the season while redshirt sophomore Isa Hernandez has been credited with a team-high four assists. A pair of goalkeepers, Sophie Milich and Jil Schneider, have split time in goal with Milich not allowing a goal in her 180 minutes on the pitch. HBU is 2-3-0 all-time against UTSA, most recently winning 2-0 at home in 2016.
 
Both Thursday and Sunday's games will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
 
The Huskies will open Southland Conference play on Friday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Abilene, Texas to face the Abilene Christian Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
