HOUSTON – Ron Cottrell, James Sears Bryant Head Men's Basketball Coach at HBU, announced the signing of Jason Thompson to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday afternoon, bringing the Huskies' recruiting class for the upcoming 2019-20 season to five.

Jason Thompson – Charlotte, N.C. (United Faith Christian Academy), 6-7, 195 lb., Wing

Thompson is a 6-7 wing from United Faith Christian Academy in Charlotte, N.C. where he played for coach Josh Coley. As a senior, Thompson averaged 14 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two blocks. He earned North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association All-State honors along with Southern Piedmont All-Conference accolades and he received the United Faith Christian Academy Coaches/Program Award.

Thompson is the son of Natasha Johnson and step-dad Quincy McWaine.

Thompson on HBU:

"I chose HBU because of the family atmosphere. I also chose the university because of how invested the coaches are towards their players and how much they want to see us succeed. Where I come from family means a lot and I feel like HBU is a great place to start a second family."

Cottrell on Thompson:

"We are thrilled to add Jason Thompson as the final signee of the 2019 recruiting class. Jason is another highly thought of recruit out of the state of North Carolina. He has spent most of his career as a lefty point guard before going through a growth spurt a couple of years ago. His experience as a PG gives him a skill set and mental approach that differs from most wing players. Jason's basketball IQ, passing skills, defensive intensity and ability to get to the rim are all terrific. We feel he will fit in well on our campus, both in the classroom and culturally. It's great to add another Tar Heel State player who is so highly decorated on the court and with such impeccable character."

United Faith head coach Josh Coley on Thompson:

"We are ecstatic for Jason to join the HBU basketball program. He is a fantastic young man on, and off, the floor. On the floor, he is a highly-skilled, versatile player who can do it all for the team to win. He is a winner by all accounts and a high-level athlete. Off the floor, he is a tremendous student with a desire to learn and grow as a person."
