HOUSTON- HBU Women's Basketball coach Donna Finnie announced the addition of three future Huskies this Wednesday. HBU is welcoming Patience Idoko, Abbey Sutherland, and Ásta Júlía Grímsdóttir.

Patience is a 5'11'' Forward born in Makurdi Benue State, Nigeria and transferring from Kilgore College. At Kilgore Idoko played two years under head coach Addie Lees where she most recently was named to the Region 14 NJCAA Honorable Mention All-Conference Team. After her freshman season she nearly doubled her game averages scoring nine points and seven rebounds a game on her way to 6 double-doubles. This included game highs of 16 points vs Coastal Bend and 12 Rebounds vs Bossier Parish. Patience was named to the President's list and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa in her time at Kilgore recognizing her academic success.

Coach Donna Finnie on Patience: "Patience becoming a Husky is very exciting for our program. She is a very explosive player and rebounds the ball very well both ends of the floor. She is a very mature and competitive young lady and I see her ability to score in all three ways, with the poise she has, allow her to be very versatile in our offense. Patience is a great student and will fit very well here on campus with her infectious personality. We are thrilled to add her to this very strong signing class."

Patience on why she chose HBU: "I choose HBU because I think we can win championships and I loved the relationship amongst the coaching staff and the players".

Abbey Sutherland is a 6'4'' Center from Hamilton Victoria, Australia. She joins HBU from Monivae College a Catholic private school in Australia. Sutherland played for the Warrnambool Mermaids club team under Louise Brown where she was a champion of the Big V Division 2 in 2017 and a champion of the Big V Division 1 in 2018. She also won the under 18 national championships playing for Victoria Country in 2017.

Head Coach Donna Finnie on Abbey: "Abbey had many options to continue her academic and basketball future and we are delighted she decided to be a Husky and bring her talents to Houston. Abbey is a very versatile forward who can shoot the three and handle the ball well on the perimeter so will fit very well in our offense immediately. Her length and mobility at 6'4 will mean she will alter shots in the paint and we see her being someone who can also defend on the perimeter which will help us be able to switch up our defenses a lot more. Abbey sees the floor very well and has great experience playing with senior players, which has helped her basketball IQ tremendously. She will stretch the floor and be able to find her teammates in the paint so we expect her to have an immediate impact as a freshman. Her maturity was evident throughout the recruiting process and during her visit, so we are excited to get Abbey on campus in July and start working with her."

Abbey on why she chose HBU: "I'm very excited to join the HBU women's basketball program and I can't wait to move overseas and become a Husky! I chose HBU as I felt it was the right fit for me, I loved my visit, all of the coaches and players were so welcoming!"

Ásta Júlía Grímsdóttir is a 6'1'' Forward from Iceland who played two seasons for her club team Valur under coach Darri Freyr Atlason. She averaged 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 7 assists good enough to win Best young player in the league for 2018-19. Valur and Grímsdóttir won the league, cup championship, and is in the national championship.

Head Coach Donna Finnie on Ásta: ": Ásta is a very driven young woman, it was clear on her visit that she will be a gym rat and will do whatever it takes to help her team. She's a perfect fit for our team as she is an exceptionally strong post defender and pursues the ball on the glass extremely hard. She is also an exceptional student and will fit well academically on campus. We are excited to welcome Ásta to the family!"

Ásta on becoming a Husky: "It's been my dream to play basketball in the US since I started playing 8 years ago. HBU is a perfect fit for me academically and I'm so excited to join the team and move to the campus in the summer! I'm really excited to play for HBU and coach Donna and I think the team is a perfect match for me. My goals are to get better in basketball, help the team, train hard and get a good degree while doing it!"
