HATTIESBURG, MS- HBU softball fell to Southern Miss Saturday night by a score of 9-1. The Huskies are set to wrap up the Black & Gold Invitational tomorrow Feb. 10 at 12:30 against Tennessee Tech.
HBU (1-2) got on the board in the 5th inning after senior 1st baseman
Brooke Bushman hit a two-out double followed up by newcomer
Riley Bullen who singled to drive Bushman in. Elliot Estes (0-1) got the start pitching ,1 innings giving up four runs on three hits, and a walk.
Emma Guindon came in and finished out the game with 4 innings of work giving up five runs on seven hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.
Southern Miss (4-0) had a group effort at the plate with the first eight batters in the lineup recording a hit including Lacey Sumerlin who record a team high in hits with two and RBI's with two. Madison Rayner followed her up with a double and two RBI's on the night. Kaylan Ladner (1-0) got the win in the circle for the Golden Eagles pitching 5 innings giving up one run on two hits, and three strikeouts.
HBU wraps up their play in the Black & Gold Invitational tomorrow at 12:30P.M. against Tennessee Tech before their home-opener Feb. 16 in a double-header against cross town rivals Texas Southern.
