HOUSTON- HBU Softball takes game 1 of day 2 in the Black & Gold Invitational. Huskies combine for seven hits to score four runs and the pitching staff throws a shutout to grab the win 4-0 against Jackson State.
HBU (1-1) had production all throughout the batting order with all seven hits coming from different players.
Sierra Humphrey was able to knock in 2 RBI's to lead the team, with
Emma Guindon adding one herself.
Freshman
Emma Guindon (1-0) grabbed the win in her first career start as a Husky throwing 4 hitless innings, with one walk, and 10 strikeouts.
Jessica Patak (0-1, 1) earned a save coming in to throw the final 3 innings giving up two hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.
Sierra Humphrey,
Kamryn Parker, and Jacquelyn Garcia all collected their first doubles on the season with one apiece.
Kayla Owens (0-2) pitched all 6 innings for Jackson State giving up four runs on 7 hits, four walks, and five strikeouts. Kelsey Smith and Ariana Cruz were the only tiger hits on the day.
The Huskies will play later tonight at 8P.M. against Southern Miss before wrapping up the Black & Gold Invitational against Tennessee Tech tomorrow Feb. 10 at 12:30P. The Huskies will make their home debut Feb. 16 with a double-header against cross town rivals Texas Southern beginning at 1:00 p.m.
