HOUSTON – On Saturday evening the HBU men's basketball team will don throwback uniforms featuring blue and orange striped shorts and jerseys featuring the "Hustlin' Husky" logo from the mid-1970's as the Huskies host Nicholls inside Sharp Gym for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. Husky fans who can't make it to Sharp can still catch the game on the Southland Digital Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play commentary, available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (8-14, 4-7 SLC) have won three of their last four games, including this past Wednesday when they downed Central Arkansas on the road, 75-71. Sophomore
Ty Dalton continued his strong play since entering the starting lineup, leading the team with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. In five games as a starter, Dalton is averaging 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game. During that span, he is shooting 56.1 percent (23-of-41) from the floor and 50 percent (5-of-10) from behind the three-point arc.
Over the recent four-game stretch, each game has been decided by four or less points. In 11 conference games, HBU holds a scoring margin of -1.4 with the largest margin of victory in any of those games being just seven. For the entire season, the Huskies have played 10 games decided by five points or less with HBU owning a 5-5 record in those contests.
Nicholls (11-13, 4-7 SLC) comes into the game having lost six of its last seven games with the lone win in that stretch coming on Saturday, Feb. 9, at New Orleans. The Colonels have been without their leading scorer in SLC play, senior Gavin Peppers, for the last two games. Peppers is averaging 14.9 ppg in conference play and is shooting 51 percent (26-of-51) from three. Jeremiah Jefferson, also a senior, is adding 13.2 ppg while Brandon Moore is scoring 11.6 ppg in conference and is leading the team with 7.6 rpg, however, Moore has missed the last three games.
The last time the two teams met, on January 12 in Thibodaux, La., a back-and-forth second half ended with the Colonels Kevin Johnson banking in the game-winner with three seconds left on the clock to give Nicholls the 77-76 win. HBU senior
Edward Hardt led all players with a career-high 29 points on 9-of-12 shooting and made 11-of-15 at the charity stripe.
The Huskies will remain at home face Northwestern State next Wednesday, Feb. 20, inside Sharp at 7:00 p.m. in the lone meeting between the two programs this season.
